In the year 2019, a group of 24 people, consisting of gentlemen and gentlewomen who share the principles and ideals of brotherhood and chivalry, agreed to restore, preserve and perpetuate the tradition of the noble knights who in 1408 founded the order called “Societas Draconistrarum” in defence of human rights. Among the 24 participants is Prince Alessandro Bonelli, Duke of Salci, a descendant of the Aba clan, the first kings of Hungary and, consequently by kinship, of the Corvino family, Grand Masters of the Ancient Order of the Dragon after Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor and founder of the Order.

On 14 September 2019, in the course of the first Chapter held at Viglas Castle, the Grand Council decided to titular the new and newly formed order of knights as the “Fraternitas – Ordo – Draconis”. As its first new Grand Master “Commendatory” was appointed the Baron Stephen Peter (V) Mercury.

Later, in the second Chapter, held at Viglas Castle on 13 November 2021, the Grand Council, having regard to the prerogative of orders of chivalry, which states “that the sovereignty of an Order also derives from the ownership of ancient possessions” considering that Viglas Castle belonged to Emperor Sigismund and later to his wife Barbara von Celje, founders of the Order of the Dragon, unanimously decided to consider the Order as a subject of international law, naming it “Sovereign International Ordo Draconis”.

At the same Chapter, Daniel von Rechitar – Count of Rechitar, owner of the Castle of Vigl’as, was elected Grand Master of the Brotherhood, while Baron Stefano Pietro Mercuri was appointed new Grand Chancellor of the Order.

Chapter VIII

On Saturday, 8 November 2025, on the occasion of the eighth chapter, His Serene Highness Prince Andrea III Gonzaga Trivulzio Galli, XVIII Prince of Mesolcina, XXI Duke of Alvito, Head of the Most Serene Princely and Ducal House of Mesolcina, granted his Temporal Protection (Fons Honorum) to the Fraternitas Ordo Draconis (F.O.D.) in a ceremony held in the Knights’ Hall of Viglas Castle.
The Fraternitas Ordo Draconis is a Noble Brotherhood that keeps alive the symbols and ideals of the Order of the Dragon, created by Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg in Viglas Castle. The Grand Master is Count Daniel von Rechitar, Peer and Patrician of Mesolcina with the Honours of Relative of His Serene Highness – fifth cousin of Prince Don Andrea. Lieutenant Grand Master is H.E. Manlio Bertucci. The Grand Chancellor is also the Minister of the House of Mesolcina for Northern Europe, Count Stefano Pietro Quinto Mercuri, 1st Count of Sant’Onofrio and Peer and Patrician of Mesolcina, with the Honours of Relative of His Serene Highness Don Andrea.
From this moment on, the Members of the Order will be rightfully called Noblemen and Knights of the Noble Fraternity of the Order of the Dragon, wearing splendid green cloaks with a red cross bearing a lily, representing the male line of the House of Mesolcina. The Fraternitas is an Ecumenical Noble Association, since the Nobility, in itself, does not have a single religion but can boast of having as its Spiritual Father His Beatitude Cosmas I, Patriarch of the Assyrian-Chaldean Orthodox Church in Western Europe.
